The Circle of Grandparents is a group of senior citizen volunteers, who "adopt" Worthington elementary school classes. Volunteers discuss community selected character qualities with their classes during monthly school visits and/or through letters, cards and e-mail messages. COG offers a wonderful opportunity for grandparents of all ages to make a difference in the lives of young children. As a grandparent, you have a vast knowledge to share with our youngest generation, and your insight will be greatly appreciated by the teachers and the children. Please contact our coordinator if you would like to be involved. We'd love to have you!

Where do Circle volunteers work? Volunteers are placed in one of the eleven Worthington elementary schools. When possible, volunteers are given choices of schools, grades and even specific classes. Do you have a grandchild in the Worthington School District? You may request his/her class.
How much time is required? On average, Circle volunteers spend two flexible hours per month fulfilling their commitments. This includes about ninety minutes of preparation and thirty minutes of class time.
Is help available to volunteers? Yes! New volunteers are oriented to the Circle before setting foot in their classrooms. Custom designed character resource books are given to grandparents. Monthly volunteer meetings are scheduled for participants to share experiences and discuss new ideas. A part-time coordinator is available by phone, e-mail or in person.
